Vista OS Migration

My local hard drive is on the fritz and in danger of failing. I'm running
vista 63 home premium on it. Ideally, I'd like to get a new internal, and
load the OS on to that. Boot from that, verify, then change the boot menu
from there.

I don't have the original windows XP disc, but I do have the vista upgrade
cd. I waqs thinking maybe a backup/restore to the new hard drive, but maybe
that won't work or there's a better way of doing this. If anyone has any
suggestions, they would be incredibly appreciated!

You can clean install your upgrade media from the Vista media you have but
it will require two installs (one without a key, one with the key). Then
you can move your data that way. Or you can make a system image backup of
the system and restore it to the new drive from within WinRE, that would be
the fastest way.

How do I do a clean install with the Windows Vista Upgrade media?
1. Boot with the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD.
2. Click "Install Now".
3. Do not enter a Product Key when prompted.
4. When prompted, select the Vista product edition that you do have.
5. Install Vista normally.
6. Once the install is complete, restart the DVD-based Setup from
within Windows Vista. Perform an in-place upgrade.
7. Enter your Product Key when prompted.
