Vista on MacBookPro with C2D: No SpeedStep

Hi there,

just got my copy of Windows Vista Home Premium and installed it on my
MacBook Pro (C2D 2.16 GHz CPU) without running into any major problems.
However, I've just realized that the cpu clock is somehow locked at the
maximum speed all the time and won't drop below 2,16GHz (even when I'm not
running any applications)! Any ideas? I've already checked the power
management settings (which are set so the highest energy saving level) or
unpluged the power cable...

Thanks,
Tom

Hi,

Lack of proper driver support is the problem. The cpu driver files function,
but don't have the power management capabilities to reduce the clock speed
under low power conditions. The system is using a basic driver file supplied
by Vista, and basically it just allows the cpu to run according to the BIOS
timing settings. Mac would need to write and release a fully functional
driver for the system to do what you are asking.

Thanks for your fast response to my question. Which driver is actually needed
for the power management features? The chipset drivers provided by Intel or
some other component?

Greetings,
Tom

Hi,

Chipset and cpu drivers. They'd have to be created by either the motherboard
manufacturer or the fine folks at Apple.

You have to have Apple's Mac drivers for Vista, like the Mac drivers for XP.
If they are not available yet with Boot Camp then you will have to wait.
