Vista OEM Install Question.

I am currently running Vista Ultimate Beta from my C: drive. Beta was
loaded when XP Pro was on the C: drive as my OS. The HDD that C: is
mounted on has two other partitions the I use to store dowlnloads and
other information. I have another HDD with a 50G (K) and a 30G(J)
partition, both are clean. My questions are:

1. Can I do a clean install of Vista OEM on my K: drive?
2. If I install Vista on K: What happens to the programs running
under Vista on my C: drive?
3. Being that I plan to run the Vista OEM as my OS, rather than run
an Upgrade version, will I be able to run XP Pro on another
machine?

I will appreciate any response

They don't run with the K: drive copy of Vista. A clean install indicates
you must install the applications for that installation. It's not an upgrade
install.

Sure. You can run whatever you want on another machine. Make sure you
appropriate your licenses are legitmately e.g. if your XP License was a full
retail then you can move it to the other machine A-OK.

You might consider lining up your copies of Windows and doing a clean
install of Vista to where you want it on this machine and on your other
machine install Windows XP. On this machine you might decide to repartition
and do a real 'from scratch' installation. In such a case it would go on the
primary drive's first primary partition [and labelled C:]. In other words,
get rid of the Beta software altogether and start fresh. It will probably
make for a better installation.

- Do a full back up of data files etc. etc. etc. beforehand to some place
off the computer you are installing on.
- Line up 3rd party / application software CDs, Product Keys etc., numbers
and setting etc.
- Line up any 3rd party drivers
- Consider if you want the harddrive(s) partitioned with just one partition
or two or three: e.g. one for Vista / one for apps / one for data
- then install Vista from scratch

They will run when you boot the Vista Beta installation on that drive.
They won't run from within the new installation. Any programs you want to
run in the new installation will need to be installed from original media.

If the XP version is retail it can be moved to another machine. If it's
OEM, then no, by the OEM license it's tied to the first machine on which it
is installed and can't be moved to a different computer. The same is true
of the Vista OEM copy.

Thank you, you have been very helpful. I believe that I will do a
good backup of data files, format the existing boot drive that has
Vista Beta on it and do a clean install to the C drive.

Thank you for the rapid response. Everything that I run now can be
easily installed under a clean Vista OS. Thanks again.
