Vista, nVidia, and Games

I have an nVidia 6200 PCI (256 meg variant). Unfortunately this is the best
card I can get for my PC (because its a Dell Dimension). I upgraded to Vista
Beta 2 and every game I launch will get to the loading screen then it will
either turn the screen black and freeze up the computer, or it will return to
the desktop with the message "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and
has successfully recovered."

When I say every game, I mean City of Heroes/Villains, Star Wars Galaxies,
Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, etc. With the included driver none of the
games would even get to the loading screen. I downloaded the Beta Vista
driver from nVidia and it helped the games at least get started, but then the
same crash would happen.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get my games going under Vista
Beta 2? I know this isn't very high on the importance scale, but I'm hoping
:) Oh yes, and they all worked under Windows XP SP2. (Standard disclaimer I
know)

Check out the release file associated with the nVidia beta driver. They
have some work-arounds.

Hi Irondrake & Ian

NVIDIA now has the full Beta suite of drivers for most cards. I upgraded min
last night and I have a 6800GT 256mb. It's working like a dream and even some
of my older games (Deus Ex) are working well.

Unfortunately that's not quite true. For most NEWER cards, perhaps.

The Tech who responded to me said they won't be offering support for any
other cards until Vista is release (although he did think that was going to
be January 2007 for some reason).

Anyway, their beta driver for Geforce cards supports the following:

I am experiencing the exact same issue with CoV, though other games work fine
(Oblivion, BF2).

Vista: x64 Beta 2
Card: Geforce 7900GTX
Driver: 88.61

I've checked the release notes of the driver and these issues aren't
mentioned under fixes, existing issues, work-arounds, or non-nvidia issues.
Apparently nVidia just isn't aware of them yet.

If anyone else has seen something similar and found a way around it please
let me know.
