Vista Licence Transfer

Guest

I installed Vista on my old PC, and while it worked ok, it ran quite slowly.

I built myself a new computer and want to transfer my vista licence onto it.
How do I go about doing this?
Thanks.

Remove Vista from the original computer. This means formatting the
partition/drive that Vista was installed upon.

Install Vista on your new computer. When you are denied activation (because
the key is already in use - by "you", of course, you will be presented with
alternate activation choices. Choose to activate by phone. Explain what you
have done - only if asked to. Do not volunteer any information, thinking
that you need to "enhance" your position. Answer only questions asked, and
no more.

You will be given a new activation code.

Before following Richard's correct procedure, starting with formating
your old hard drive, I would suggest backing up all your personal data
files if you are going to need them on your new PC, making sure you
have installation media for any applications you use AND make sure that
the media you used to install on your old PC are not in some way tied
to that machine only, eg are OEM.

Perhaps he will comment on these points, intended to avoid tears

Is it an OEM or retail version of Vista? If OEM by the license it's tied to
the first computer on which it's installed and can't be transferred to a
different system. If retail just uninstall on the old system and install on
the new. If activation won't go through on the internet then use phone
activation.
