Vista Laptop blank screen after lid close

I recently bought a new Toshiba laptop with Vista preinstalled. Since the
first day I owned the screen seems to randomly go black. The backlighting is
still on, just a black display. It seems to do it more often after the lid
has been closed and reopened from hibernate mode. I thought it was the
display driver so
I installed the most recent one from the ATI site. No luck! Anyone know a
solution?

It's a problem with Vista sleep. IMHO the best idea is to enable Hyrid
sleep mode.

I found somewhere on the net that going into Services and setting the ATI External Event Utility service to manual and then Apply and reboot is supposed to fix the issue. Try sleeping and resuming, it worked like a charm for me on a Gateway CX210X. Apparently the event service doesn't properly register the resume from standby event and so it never wakes the screen.

Wonder what the fix for nvidia users is ?
I have the same problem. But upon wakeup there screen is black, Which it's
pointless to put computer into sleep mode if you can't see the screen which
you have to reboot system. So you might as well turn off the system. Another
vista bug. (Confirmed by MS)
