i recently had a new computer built with a windows vista home premium 32bit
on an evga 680i SLI motherboard, intel q6600 quad 2.4ghz cpu, and 2, 1gig
corsair xms2 800mhz ram chips(pair), amoung some other products. (hard drive,
vid card, sound card)

my issue is this, i have just added 2 more 1gig corsair xms2 800mhz ram
chips for a total of 4gigs ram
my computer is seeing the ram but vista is not...

can anyone tell me why this is?

Vista 32 Bit can only recognize up to 3 GBs, its possible one RAM sticks are
defective why you are not seeing more than the 2 GBs.

Try running a test on your memory modules:

Try this and see if it works:

Go to Start, type msconfig and press enter. Click on the Boot tab, then
advanced options. Check to see if the 'Maximum Memory' is checked.
Sometimes it is, and Vista will only "see" what is listed. Just uncheck
that and it should work great from there.

32-bit Vista can address up to 4 GB of RAM. However, the hardware needs
some of that address space, so the space must be subtracted from the 4 GB.
This machine has 3.2 GB of its 4 GB available.

And, that's a point that needs to be emphasized, IMHO.
The amount of memory a PC "has available" with 32 bit Vista and 4 gig
installed will vary. I have two such machines here. One (Asus M2N-E w/Athlon
X2 5200 @ 2.67 GHz) shows 3.5 gig available. The other (Asus P5B Plus w/Core
2 Duo @2.76 GHz) shows only 2.96 gig available.

Yes, it definitely varies depending on the installed hardware.

This has been the subject of many posts - Vista "sees" 4 gigs of ram but
"'reserves" part or all of 1 gig and will report a 4 gig installation as 3+
gigs
.. The "reserve" memory is to support other "stuff" such as video .
