HUGE Ram and GPU usage

Snowman

Is there a way to tune down Vista's hunger for RAM and GPU power? I could
play Counter Strike: Source better on my laptop which had a single core AMD
Turion 1.8ghz cpu, 1gig ram and X1600 gpu than my brand-spanking new Asus
laptop which has a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gig of ram and ATI HD 3470. This is
just plain ridiculous that a newer laptop and newer software give me WORSE
performance for a relatively old game. And it just isn't CS:S that's a
problem either. Startup and shutdown time is WAY too long

You missed giving the link.

Turning off aero will inprove performance for a start.
There are also lots of tutorials on this website.

I can't see how Aero can make that much of a difference. Half Life 2 and
Portal runs fine on my laptop under Vista. I think perhaps your GFX card
drivers arn't as good under vista.

You want Windows Vista to use lots of ram so it doesn't hammer the hard
drive writing to the page file all the time. Using all your memory is a
good thing but more than 2GB can be an even better thing. If you can add
ram, do it. Also, some direct help for this issue is ReadyBoost. Get a
Vista certified usb stick (4GB) and you will see some help.

Use a good defragger to analyse your hard drive and see if it needs
defragging.

Without SP1, Vista really sucks. If you don't have it, GET IT!
You'll see major performance boost, more than you'll see by adding
hardware or using ReadyBoost.

I have SP1, dammit. I'm not a noob that needs to be breast fed. Just need to
know if anyone has any *real* way of telling Vista to stfu with eating away
at so much of my ram. Also, the driver for my graphics may indeed not be the
best it could, but ATI have had plenty of time to work on it and the HD line
was designed specifically for HD playback and DX10 i.e. VISTA!!!
I think at this point it's safe to say that Vista supporters have run out of
**** excuses about trying to explain why it's such a horrible OS.

try to download Vista SP1 and change virtual memory usage at system
settings. Download new ATI Catalyst to enhance your GPU. Good luck
