Do you have anything connected to the PC when you are running Vista setup?
Before running setup, try disconnecting all peripherals from your computer
even if they are turned off during setup especially but not limited to any
external hard drives and flash memory devices. Then, try running setup with
all peripherals disconnected and see if setup hangs again.

Is this an upgrade or are you installing clean? If you are upgrading over
your previous setup, it's possible setup is freezing on something in that
setup, it could be hardware drivers, an application, corrupted code, all
sorts of things.

No, I am doing a clean installation.
I am not sure if this matters but I got it thru the express upgrade process

Thanks alot for helping,
Nick

If that's the download version, it's possible something might be corrupted.
I'd check with the retailer through which you got it and alert them to the
issue you are having.

Things can get corrupted during the download process.

It wasnt downlaoded, i have a DVD-ROM

thanks again
Okay, I checked on the express upgrade and this was offered to folks buying
XP PCs when Vista was "on the way." I'd check with the PC manufacturer if
this was offered through them or the retailer if they were offering it. If
the manufacturer, they should provide you with tech support for Vista and
might be able to help you with this issue.

thanks but I am attempting to avoid calling or emailing them as long
as possible
Sorry, wish I had more. This support is the responsibility of the
manufacturer and it should be provided to you as a service free of charge.
It might save you a lot of time and effort as they might know precisely
what's wrong. It might be related to your specific model, there may have
been something unknown to them; have you checked their website for any
issues regarding your model PC that might relate to this?

Try, if you haven't already, not being connected to the internet when you
install. Physically disconnect the connection to your computer, and when
Setup asks you if you want to connect to the internet for upgrades (or
something like that, I don't quite remember the exact question), say no.
You can update drivers, activate, and run Windows Update later, once Vista
is installed.

I probably should have explained myself a little better. My problem is
exactly as I said but I have a custom-built PC. I bought XP Media Center
2005 w/ Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade.

Internet isnt the problem because the first 3 times I tried it I wasnt
connected anyways.

Thanks again for the replies

Ah, now I see. My PCs are also custom, shop built to my reqirements but
that does limit your tech support options. My OS versions have either come
as the result of beta testing or access to MSDN and that limits my options
pretty much to the communities in which I'm a member and or participate.

Well, I have another suggestion if you haven't already tried it. Since
you've already disconnected all external devices, you might try removing
internal deivices one by one and then trying the install again. I say one
by one because that way you may be able find which device, modem, soundcard,
graphics card or any other add-in card, maybe ethernet card, that might be
triggering the problem which in the event of issues down the road you could
remove to see if that devices was the source and consider replacing it.

Even though the Advisor picked up no problems, it's not perfect, obviously,
there's something it missed or it may simply be a quirk related to some
item's compatibility with your setup.

Hope that helps.

Same problem for me.
I have an upgrade from XP home to Vista Home Basic.
I get the following error:
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0x87204BA0,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
I have a custom built pc as well. Perhaps we have a hardware component which
causes the error which we both have. I'll give you my specs:
CPU: core2duo E6600 2,4 ghz
Memory: 2GB DDRII (one Kingston and one Corsair module)
Hard drive: Maxtor 120 GB 7200 RPM
Graphics card: ASUS EN8800GTS
Motherboard: ASUS P5V-VM DH

Geez, I also get these stop errors on a clean install of Vista -_- It seems
like I have tried everything except pulling some stuff out, well except for
2GB of ram out for 4GB... Cause Vista wont work if I have 4. It is an odd
problem Most of my parts say Vista Certified so I dont get it. Please refer
here to see what I have inside :)

I tried installing Vista on a free partition and this worked out. But I do
have a lot of problems with Vista now. My sound is not working while my pc
sais there's nothing left to install. Live messenger aint working either and
Call of Duty 2 crashes.
To frankzro: Nice pc, but what CPU do you have? cause the thing you showed
was just a cpu cooler.
