So I have areally dumb question, I am looking at buying a new computer and
the specs say it includes Vista Home Premium. Does that mean it comes with,
Outlook, Word, Excel ect.....does anyone know?

NO, Vista is an operating system.

Outlook, Word, Excel are part of Microsoft Office and must be purchased and
installed separately.

Outlook, Word, Excel etc are components of Microsoft Office - Vista does not
include Microsoft Office.

Some retailers, of course, include Microsoft Office as part of the bundle...

Why don't you ask them...?

Many computer sellers will offer Microsoft Office or Works with a new
computer, but you have to pay for it.

Those are part of the Microsoft Office suite, and cost more. Be very
wary of stores that sell you a system with Office. If you do not read
the fine print you may just be getting the office 30 day demo, after
which you have to buy it.

Also, note there is a difference between Office and Microsoft Works

No, it doesn't.

Neither Windows Vista (in any edition), nor any other version of
Windows before it, has ever included Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint,
Access, or any other significant application software. Such programs
have to be bought, either by themselves or as part of Microsoft
Office.

If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows, came
with one or more of these, it was because the vendor who sold it
bundled it as part of the package he sold you, not because that
version of Windows came with it. Some, but not all, vendors do the
same with Windows Vista.

Ken,

I guess the next obvious question some of us would like to know is, if you
bought Microsoft Office for your old Windows XP machine, can you now install
it on your new Vista machine? Or do you have to purchase another copy of
Office CD, assuming Office 2003 is compatible with Vista?

Sure, if you take it off the old machine. Assuming that it's a retail
copy (not OEM), it's transferable. Only OEM copies are not
transferable to another computer.

Office CD, assuming Office 2003 is compatible with Vista?

Yes, Office 2003 is compatible with Vista.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

No, it doesn't. Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor
any of its individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access, Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows
operating system. They are, and always have been, separate
applications, that must be purchased and installed separately.

Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.

RUN AWAY FAST from that computer. Vista is evil. You will end up
buying a copy of XP in short order. MS really screwed up with this POS
OS. Its far worse than even WinME was.
