Version Comparison

I'm buying a new home computer.
I'm looking at a comparison chart of the versions of Vista, and i see that
for Vista Home Premium, Remote Desktop Connection is unavailable.
Does that mean i cannot use MSTSC from another computer to control my home
computer with Vista Home Premium
or does it mean i cannot make an outgoing MSTSC connection from the Vista
Home Premium computer?

Thanks,
Allen

All versions of Vista include the remote desktop client, which gives you
the ability to connect from that Vista machine to another machine that
supports remote desktop connections. With Home Premium you will not be
able to connect from another computer to your Vista Home Premium machine
using remote desktop.

If you don't want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate on the Home Premium
machine (which is what you'd need to do to use the MS Remote Desktop
control program), you could put on third-party remote desktop control
software. Examples are TightVNC, UltraVNC, and pcAnywhere. Of course you
would need to make sure those programs support Vista.

No. If Home Premium has everything you need except for the ability to
connect in remotely, then Ultimate is not for you. Ultimate is for
those who need other additional features as well such as complete image
based backup, EFS, Bitlocker, and some of the other IT pro type features
such as support for multiple user interface languages, in addition to
the more home oriented features not included with the Business SKUs such
as the Media Center UI, HD Movie Maker, DVD Maker.

If Home Premium has everything that you need with the exception of the
ability to control it remotely, there are plenty of other solutions to
that problem besides remote desktop. There are a number of VNC
utilities that allow this, many of them free. There are also online
type tools such as those available from sites like www.logmein.com.
