Vista Home Premium And Icool

I have just moved from XP to Home Premium by way of a reformat and clean
install. I have a Gigabyte motherboard and a utility called Icool which
controls the speed of the processor fan. Under XP when the machine started up
the fan would run at full speed until Icool loaded as part of the startup
process and the fan would quieten down and operate at normal speed.

Under Vista as the machine starts up I get a message saying "Windows has
blocked some programs at startup" I then have to click on "Show programs" and
then on Icool to launch it, then I get the "Windows needs your permission to
continue" message and I have to click this before Icool will launch.

Is there a way I can stop this happening and have Icool launch automatically
as it did in XP?

Hi Rob,

Click start and type "windows defender", then hit <enter>. Go to Tools, then
Quarantined Items and see if it is listed here. You can alter this and allow
it to run at startup.

Hi Rick

Thanks, tried this and found there were no entries in Quarantined items!

Any other suggestions?

Hi Rick

Yes Icool is in startup in msconfig along with Zone Alarm, AVG and Windows
Defender

Icool is shown as "Update application" and it is Windows Defender that is
stopping it on startup

Hi Rob,

It sounds then like the application wants to write to or access system
folders, and under Vista this isn't allowed without verification from the
user (programs in Vista run within a virtual file set so as to avoid
alteration of the system file set). Until the application is updated to do
this, you will likely have to continue authorizing its running at boot.
There is no way to authorize an application to have this level of privilege
automatically, as that is viewed as a security risk.

Hi Rick

Thanks for your help, looks like I´ll have to hang around until Gigabyte do
something about it. Its a bit of a pain as without the Icool the machine
sounds like a 747 getting ready to take off!

Cheers
Rob
