Vista Home Basic Pisses Me Off

Hello all,

I had already uninstalled Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic DVD Edition along
with Acronis Disk Director Suite. Then, while I was uninstalling Acronis
Disk Director Server v10 the uninstaller needed to reboot. Upon reboot Vista
said it was unable to complete the reboot process then said it needed to
check some files. Vista then said it needed to do a system restore which I
allowed it to do.

Vista restarted ok but the programs I had uninstalled earlier have
reappeared in the list of installed programs. Each time Vista starts up
Roxio Easy Media Creator gives me the following two error messages:

Unable to find a certificate file.

There was a problem authenticating your version. Please make sure
your system is set to the current date.

If I try to reinstall Roxio I get the message above. If I try to uninstall
Roxio I get the same message above. If I try to just delete the Roxio folder
I still get the message above. Currently, I can't do a dam thing about Roxio
so I'm stuck. Same thing with the other programs that were once uninstalled
but have now reappeared in the list of installed programs.

So, do any Vista experts have a solution to this blunder.

So why are you messing with Vista when Ubuntu does everything you want it to
do?

Probably a desperate attempt at getting some credibility here?

Advice you should take yourself. It seems that Zero is available. It
would more accurately reflect your value to this newsgroup.

I don't think this is the same Alias.

You're the same old Jupiter. Always bitching and trying to be a
control freak acting like you're the big banana. I guess it has
something to do with your name. Jupiter the planet is the biggest
planet and it is all gas. Can you take a hint?

What's the matter, you getting pissed off I'm too much for you to
handle? Seems like it. That is a fact all fanboys learn sooner or
later. My advice, learn it now or I'll just go on kicking your dumb
ass.

There are a few things you could try.

How were you trying to install or uninstall Roxio? If you tried from
add/remove programs and it gave you that error message, maybe try
installing/uninstalling from the cd/installation media and see if that
fixes your problem.

It also sounds to me like your problem might lie in the registry. Run a
restore point and backup any important data first, then go to

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall

and look at the list of installed programs under there in order to find
the errant entries in add/remove programs. Delete the corresponding
folders. If the folders all have big, long alpha-numeric strings, then
click on the folder and look at the 'displayname' entry in the left
registry pane in order to figure out what program that folder is for.

After that, if there are still any errant entries in add/remove
programs, run this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This should hopefully take care of the rest of it. Good luck Alias!

Hey Kerry,

Thank you so much. Right now I'm bowing down to you, can you see me :)
I downloaded and installed the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from your
suggested link and it allowed me to uninstall that problematic Roxio
software. For a while there I thought I might have to reinstall Vista all
over again. You have saved me so much grief and I cannot thank you enough.
YOU ROCK!!!

BTW, some of you who posted here no doubt think I am someone else. I have
posted in the Windows XP forums and a few times in the Vista forums. I only
post to recieve help, or give help if I can. If you would like me to post my
real name then I will do so to avoid the confusion. I don't look for trouble
people, only solutions to my problems.

Thank you to all who posted with intent to honestly try to help me.

Another posts here using the same handle.
He is often extremely critical of Microsoft, Windows and those who
like the products.

You would probably be better off using a different handle, not
necessarily your real name.

Hello Yanaire... long time no see! :)

Where you been? Under a moldy rock for vacation, or is that your permanent
residence?

Good to see you ol pal.... I guess you will be flooding us with more fanboy
nonsense.... :)

Or perhaps you never left and was under disguise like the troll you really
are?

Nevertheless, this group is not as good without you. Frank cant handle all
the logic alone.
