Vista Full image backup to DVD's verify error

When I try to do a full image backup to DVD's, Vista says to label a disk #1
and insert it. It writes to the DVD and then starts verifying it. After
about the same elapsed time it took to write to the DVD, It says "There was
an error in verifying the disk, please discard the disk, label a blank disk
#1 and insert it."
Exploring the written DVD it appears to be OK. If I backup just files, It
doesn't verify and they seem to be all right. So it seems to be a problem
with the verify. Is there a work-around or a way to turn the verify off?

Don't be too quick to turn verify off on something as important as a
mirror image. Haven't tried, but I'll take a guess. When you verify it
does a checksum and compares what was written to the source. If it
don't match, EXACTLY, the backup is all but useless. One or more files
didn't copy exactly, probably. Of course the catch is you won't know
what file until you probably need it, then its too late.

Is this happening everytime?
I've seen it happen before but with a 2nd disc it went through ok.
Maybe try different media?

Yes every time, I've tried +R and -R DVD's and different brands. I've wasted
16 to 18 DVD's. i bought the computer from Dell. Dell says it's a Vista
problem and Microsoft says pay me and then we will talk.

I agree, but I can't get by the first DVD and I've tried +R ,-R and different
brands of DVDS's.

I'm having the same problem. Also a Dell, running Vista Ultimate.

I don't actually see it say "verifying" but I'm sure that's what it's
doing. It writes for awhile, then seems to go back to the beginning
(must be verifying), takes about the same amount of time, then I get a
message. But mine just repeats the initial message telling me to label
and insert disk 1.

I did a Complete PC Backup a couple of days ago and it worked. Now
that I've got everything set up the way I want it, I want another
image backup. I've been chatting online with a Dell support guy who
doesn't even know the difference between a file backup and an image
backup.

Any suggestions?

What are you using to backup? Either the full version of Nero or Easy
Creator do a much better job than any junk that comes preinstalled.

Dell support? Oxymoron. Ditto for Gateway or any so-called support for
any prebuilt box maker.

If you haven't discovered it yet, both Gateway and Dell have fairly
active newsgroups similar to this which you may find give more
specific answers to your particular brand.

There are several groups, use "Dell" as a search to find more.

Here's a fairly busy one:
