VISTA file download

James

Hi Vista Group,
I just bought a new machine with Vista on it and I tried to download some
files to start setting up and organizing things the way I want, and when I
am asked if I want to RUN, SAVE or CANCEL I select save and the dialog box
goes away and ===== nothing happens.

In the status bar, bottom right hand side, there is a line of text saying
Internet | Protected Mode: On and the tool tip for this says "double
click to Change Security Settings" when I double click on this notice ====
nothing happens.

If I go to the tools menu and select Internet Options and click on that
===== Nothing Happens!

BUT, if I go to the control panel and select Internet options I can get in
that way.
However, when I go to the Downloads section I see that file download IS
enabled.

Can someone please point me to a KB article or if anyone has any suggestions
on how I can get my files downloaded?

Hi James,
It sound like you have some windows files missing the only way to fix
this is to reinstall windows either by a disc that came with your pc or a
recovry partitaion on your hard drive please refer to your manual that came
with your pc on how to restore to factory settings.

Please post a message here if you were unsucessful or successful in this
thanks

Where did you buy the system?

Best Buy, Geek Squad (I work for them so sorry for the SHAMELESS promo)
offers "Customization" with a new PC, basically we boot it up, make sure
everything is loaded, update Vista and tweak your registry a little and make
sure it appears to be working. Its free with a new PC, and i'm sorry to
everyone in this group. :) Remember, customization = free, security package
= $129.

I don't like the restore idea, but since the system is so new there's no
reason not to try James' restore idea, and if it fails or you end up with
the same problem take it back where you got it. Keep notes of what you
attempted.

Good luck

Thanks, I was afraid of that.
When I said this was a new machine, I meant I took it out of the box and put
it on my desk and tried to use it.
You'd think that HP could get things right, now I have to deal with sitting
on the phone with Tech support, ugh!
