Vista Express Upgrade question

Hi,

I bought my computer just before Vista came out, so currently have XP Media
Centre Edition, but my computer was one of those that would be sent Vista as
soon as it came out. I'm still using XP Media Centre because it works well
and Vista has a bit of dodgy reputation.

I now have got a virus on XP which won't go away, it's the "Virtumonde" one.
It appears every time I logon, and every time I go on the internet

I've removed it but it keeps returning, so am no longer using the computer.
However, it may just be easier to re-install XP from scratch. However, I was
not supplied with an XP CD, so my only option is Vista.

Therefore, my question is: if I install this "express upgrade" of Vista,
will it DEFINITELY completely overwrite the registry of my computer and thus
rid me of this annoying virus?

If it was a completely fresh install I'd already have done it, but it says
"Express Upgrade" which worries me, and it's also going to go through all my
"current programs and device drivers so as to check what is compatible with
Vista"... but I don't want this, I want Vista to completely overwrite
everything so that the virus is got rid of. I don't mind re-installing all my
programs and files, I've already backed everything up

This virus has got into my registry, and also as a result of using Spybot
S&D to remove the registry entries I no longer have the Quick Launch Icons
(next to Start) button, so my computer's a bit messy currently, so I hope you
understand why I want everything to be overwritten

Thankyou very much

Hi,

I used my express upgrade disk to create a clean install. This is on an HP
laptop using the disk supplied via moduslink. I actually received two, one
for Vista and the other for drivers and applications specific to the system.
If this is the disk you received, then yes you should be able to do what you
want.
