We really do not know.
You have your theory, and others have theirs.
But to assume it is only about the $ this Beta brings in ignores other
possibilities.

As I said before there are probably more than one reason.
But if you have a source...

Yeah, I'm sure that unsupervised kids on the Internet have nothing better to
download than a beta of Office... Nothing else interesting out there! :)

More than ever Microsoft is realizing it is the only game in town and what
the implications of that are. Look for higher rates charged more often for
betas and RCs. They will because they know they can.
 
Um, I don't have the source - Microsoft does - that's the point and it
brings them in the bucks - even a simple beta download brings 'em millions.
Look for more beta download charges at higher rates.
