Vista has 'just' been released...well, almost just. 'To upgrade' or 'not to
upgrade' or 'when to updrade', is the question on top of most minds ! Now ?
Or After the SP1. Corporates & Individuals, waiting for the SP1 to iron out
minor Vista issues, before deciding to take the plunge, feel good when they
read in a reputed blog : "Vista SP1 coming soon, say sources !" The blog gets
a lot of reads. Then two days, later the same writer again says : "SP1 not
coming so soon !" The Blog again gets a lot of hits ! The rumour mill sure is
active !

To add fuel to fire, is all talk of "Windows7". "Expect Windows7 by 2010" !
Hey, thats just 3 years from now ! Sould one then wait for Windows7 to
udgrade, which is said to be a really outstanting OS ! But what if the date
slips ?

True, such talk always keeps Microsoft in the news, but it also hurts the
cause of consumers waiting to upgrade. No doubt, Windows always draws
speculation, probably because it is so basic to everything that we do these
days with computers.

But again sources say that currently the Windows7 is still on drawing board
for MS. There is still a lot of innovation that needs to flow to the
customers from Vista launch. But with such talk, Windows7 is threatening to
steal the thunder away from Vista and eclipse Vista/SP1 in public MindSpace
!!!

Internally, MS doesn't want dust kicking on Windows7; Not even its Mktg
does; Its is just what speculators have been talking about ! Microsoft then
needs to issue a clear cut time frame, well atleast to the nearest quarter
period, as to when a consumer should expect the SP1, If at all it does
actually plan to release one. Or is it abandoning the idea of "Service
Packs", and just release these fixes through Windows Update or otherwise,
throughout the year, the latest "Vista Compatibility and Reliability Pack"
being an example.

My advice to those planning to upgrade ... The best time is NOW !!! ;-)

I will gladly wait :)

Actually, I will gladly pay $100-150 for XP SP2 + Aero. :)

Or you could pay nothing and get Ubuntu with Beryl and see what Aero was
supposed to be.

LOL, you try every possible opportunity.

I probably will provided if our applications and development tools can work
with it. Otherwise, I won't bother.

Why don't you ask about those programs at alt.os.linux.ubuntu?

I don't need no steenking rotating desktop. It's just a useless gimmick.

No worry.

I have people to ask if I really want to. And for the record, even if (a
big one) I try, it won't be your credit :) It is that much I "like" Vista.
I will try Apple as well except they are really expensive.

Just like clockwork. The Ubuntu marketing department chimes in with his
Ubuntu banter. Give it a rest and go slither over to the Ubuntu groups

Why would anyone want to look at a TOY OS (Ubuntu) when they can get a
workhorse of an OS in Windows XP and eventually Vista!

Diarrhea of the mouth.

Aero was supposed to be a flippin cube?
I don't think so.
More lies huh?

The problem with your argument is the premise that Ubuntu is a "TOY OS".
It isn't. That's just a fanboy's excuse to tell himself he is safe with
Vista.

The next time you have to clean your Windows box of malware or get the
eventual BSOD, get back to me about how it's a "workhorse".

No. In fact, you've inspired me to post on more Vista groups.

Um, your ignorance -- once again -- is showing. The revolving cube is a
just a small part of Beryl. Course, you can't even install Ubuntu, much
less Beryl so how would you know? You don't. Sooooooooooo, you're just
blowing hot air but what else is new?

I'm am pretty safe with Vista and XP because I have up to date Antivirus
software, a good firewall, and I don't visit sites that are suspect. I do
my work which XP hosts and I produce results. That is how my OS is a
workhorse. It allows me to run the software (Visual Studio .NET) so I can
make a living.

If I had a TOY OS like Linux or Ubuntu, I couldn't run Visual Studio and
make a living. Don't go and tell me to run under an emulator like Wine
because in the Windows world, you just can't do that. There are many
reasons why and I won't go into them here.

Just be happy when a few geeks decide to play with Ubuntu and be happy. Go
to the Ubuntu groups and tell them that they are in Computing heaven with
their choices. They don't have to pay MicroSquish any money or deal with
activation. BFD. I run with legitimate software so if I have to make a
call to reactivate, I'll do it. Yes it is inconvienent, but not the end of
the world like you are suggesting.

Go preach to others in the third world countries where they don't have the
money to use Microsoft solutions. Is Microsoft perfect? Of course not, but
once the bugs are ironed out, it works and it works well.

It pays my bills and I'm happy with it.
