Vista downloadable upgrade issues

I made the huge mistake of assuming that purchasing the downloadable version
of the upgrade would be easy. I thought it would be a simple DVD ISO but no
its three files one of which is an exe that is suppose to extract the files
from the other two and the launch the setup. Well that should be easy enough
right. Wrong after the extraction bar completes it pops up with the error
"Cannot extract Windows Vista Setup to your hard drive. Please ensure that
you can create files and folders in the same folder where VistaSetupPrep.exe
was downloaded". This makes absolutly no sense because it has already
extracted all the files(im not sure if its all of them but it is a lot) but
yet it won't launch the install. I have tried every possible way I could find
to disable the read only property of the folder but had no luck. I can't find
any other thread out there to help with this problem so I don't know if I am
the only one with the issue or the only one dumb enough to buy this version.

I purchased Vista Home Premium and upgrading from XP Media Center 2004

BS,

I'm having the same prob; see my post from earlier, and no one has answered
this ? yet. I've tried everything. Reload, redownloaded, everything... Please
email me if you find a fix and I will do the same for you.

Bryan,

You haven't got an answer because you guys are the first to
use the download routine. Microsoft did not make this available
for testing to anyone that I am aware of. I'm sure they did a small
scale in-house test. But, even us "seasoned" pros who have been
using Vista in beta since June, have no idea how this procedure is
supposed to work. I certainly don't. Whenever we tested a new
beta, it was always an ISO that we burnt to a DVD.

Unfortunately, there aren't very many Microsoft employees who
participate in these groups, few and far between.

I wish I could help you, it's just that we don't have any folks around
here who have installed Vista this way.

Call Microsoft and let them know how you feel, tell them you need
help ASAP.

Thanks for the info! Makes sense now that you say that. I did request a
refund today and it looks like I'll get it. I did however buy the retail
version of Ultimate Full and it loaded without a prob! Works wonderful and I
freaking love it to death!!!!! It is so weird going from knowing almost
everything about your OS to not knowing much. I like it! Hopefully Microsoft
will work on the download version...

I'm glad it worked out for you.

If you have any questions, you know where to come.

Take care,

Michael
