Vista - Domain or no Domain

"Max" asked
Is it possible to add a Vista system to WinNT domain?

Jeff Warren answered
Yes, assuming it is Vista Business or higher.

*********************************

You can add XP pro to a domain, but not XP home.

So unless Microsoft has changed its policy, which they could do at any time
and without notice, you would expect

Workgroup Only
Vista Basic
Vista Premium

Join to Domain
Vista Business
Vista Enterprise

What about Vista Ultimate. Can it be joined to a domain? Isn't it suposed
to have everything that both Vista Premium and Vista Business have? Is
Vista Ultimate "higher" than Vista Business?

Thanks Andre

And that leads into another question I was going to ask:

What is the Vista (Longhorn) server going to be called?

Will it be Server 2007, or something else?

Also, an NT 4 server domain will not support a Vista workstation, but will a
Longhorn Server domain support an NT workstation?

I don't know what Longhorn Servers final name will be called, rumors (just
rumors now) have suggested either Windows Server 2007 or Windows 2007
Server, I guess we will know by BETA 3.

I haven't tried NT 4 on Longhorn Server, will let you know later.

Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise, with Windows Server "Longhorn" attached
as a file and print server, DHCP and DNS server.

Hi Andre,

It might be worth checking NTLM vs Kerberos and SMB signing. I assume
you were trying to join it form the GUI?? I would suggest trying it from
NetDom and make a note of the exact error. You'd need both accounts
DOMAIN\AdminGuy and MACHINE\Administrator and their passwords. Make sure
DNS suffixes are correct too and that name resolution is working.
