Vista disk activity driving me insane

In what way? lol

There is nothing Vista can do that XP cannot, with add on applications (if
you want them).

Thats the beauty of it (XP).. you have CHOICE if you want to extend and slow
down your computer
with disk indexers and fancy effects. With vista you have them included
built in
and its a pain in the posterior to get rid of them!

XP is 30% faster on the same hardware.. any hardware... stable,
compatible...
user friendly... it is the best OS microsoft made.. its amazing how they
took a great
thing and messed it up like that... and made.. .YUK>>> Vista......

Only in your delusional psychotic mental state is XP 30% faster (yeah
right!) than Vista.
But in real life, where most of us live, it isn't.

Which can run at a great frame rate - but when the disk thrashes in the
middle of a game all that hardware is worthless.
Oh yeah that's a very nice system! Have you tried creating a new user,
and as that user shutting down most everything non-essential that loads
at start up?

YES vista is EXTREMELY bad in that aspect... along with many more.. but I
wont say anything about that now.. what can you do?

If you saw my new Vista system, you'd wet your panties. It's extremely
solid, faster than my 3 XP systems, and easy to maintain. You have an
agenda, and therefore have no objective credibility.

On some hardware it is, especially if Vista doesn't fully support his
hardware (or in the case of VIA chipsets, as an example, you're
comparing a full driver installation in XP to a Microsoft-provided
driver installation in Vista, since there aren't drivers for Vista yet)

But to say it's 30% slower on all hardware, that's at best a bad joke.

Simply offloading all of the day to day GUI functions to the GPUs most
of us have in our systems already is a huge performance boost in many
cases, although it certainly won't be if your video card shares system
memory and your bus is already overloaded, or if you don't have an
independent video card at all, or various other similar issues)

Sure I have an agenda right......

what other conspiracy theories do you think I am involved in?
Perhaps I fly around in a UFO and abduct Vista users for torture...?

hey, now that I think of it, that's not a bad idea! :)

apparently we have a major difference in installed running programs.
I never experience any high level of disk activity slowing the computer down. occasionally at reboot, ati control panel gets a complaint. as slowing down reboot.
once the indexing got done, it has been well behaved.
only time I notice any slow down is when click to read some messages it takes some time to download them for reading.
I never bother looking at the disk light unless the delay gets LONG.
usually have 14 items in the notification area running. use avast for virus, windows firewall
NO office products.
use VLC and not media layer so it is not hogging anything.
use trillian not messenger so its not hogging anything.

maybe a list op programs you normally have running might give someone a hint on any problems.

I have a Windows Vista Ultimate box I built with an E6400 Core 2 Duo
Processor, 2GB of ddr2-800 RAM, and a WD Raptor 10k hard drive and 1GB
ReadyBoost drive.

The one thing which is driving me nuts about Windows Vista compared to XP is
the idle drive activity - its insane!

I disabled Windows Search Service, which I really liked but couldnt deal
with the disk activity.

Doing anything that requires setting a System Restore point (like installing
an application) - will send the disk into a frenzy for over 5 minutes!

But the most annoying part is that I will be playing a game, and suddenly
Vista will start hammering my disk - I have *no idea* why this happens - it
doesnt happen under XP with the same RAM. It ruins the playability of my
game and is just hell.

Anyone know any other tweaks or the possible source of all this disk
crunching madness???

is it possible the game is not ready for vista and is causing system problems.

If you play video games it is very disruptive, because if the computer gets
busy with too much disk activity you will get severe stuttering and reduced
frame rates in the game which affect its playability.

This is especially a problem with Vista, since its stability and performance
with the game I play daily (BF2142) is already significantly lower then it
was on XP.

C'mon Frank. What degree? Tell us... please.
I'd like to hear about just one, even though you seem to have more than one.

was the word "maybe" a clue? I bet it was...

Good news Frank, I know how much you dislike it when I quote Gates, Ballmer,
etc.
How about I just quote you instead from now on? Like that idea?

I see you failed English grammar. Now who would have thought that could
be possible.
Entertain us all some more with your non sequiturs. They are so
entertaining and that seems to be all you're capable of posting.
Truth is john, you're an idiot and you keep on proving it with every post.
Do it again for all to see, ok!
