Vista CD

My friend just bought an Acer computer with Vista SP1 on it. It came with
no literature or CDs. Is there a way he can make a bootable CD with Vista
Sp1 on it for emergencies?

AFAIK slipstreaming Vista is an iffy proposition so far. Supposedly the
makers of nLite (an excellent tool for slipstreaming and streamlining XP)
have created vLite for Vista. I haven't tried it so YMMV. If others reading
your post have tried it, I'm sure they will report what happened.

In any case, your friend doesn't have a real Vista DVD install disk. H/She
should definitely create the Acer System Restore disks (refer to the Acer
Help file/manual/website for how to do this) but that's just an aside.

I don't know if the image from there includes SP1 or not. You could contact

There will be a "hidden" partition on your Hard Drive containing Recovery
Files to take your computer back to factory standards.

You make a bootable back-up DVD from the files there.

If there is no "nagging" screen coming up about doing it, and nothing in a
Manual for your computer, check out Acer's website, or contact them to ask
how it is done.

Each manufacturer has their OWN way to do it!

The program botched the disk creation then deleted itself.
You're only allowed to do this once...even if it doesn't work.
And there's nowhere to download the program.
Response from Compaq support was, "sorry for the inconvenience".

Use a disk imaging program to image ALL partitions and save that
away before you do ANYTHING with/on/to a computer.

I did this twice with my Acer, worked like a charm as the first thing I
always do is slide in a new drive and test it. There is a saying in this
business, "it is broken until tested" and for me, the test was successful.
I am not sure if Acer has a limit, I made 2 copies.

For Acer, it backs up the recovery partition to a DVDs and makes it
bootable.
