Vista Business Edition and Outlook XP password problems

I am unable to get Outlook XP (2002) to remember the passwords for my email
accounts. The "Remember password" box is checked but it continues to ask for
them, on all email accounts and in all Vista accounts -- Administrator and
Limited. Even though I have repeatedly entered the passwords in the
appropriate field, the field will be empty after closing and then opening
Outlook, and thus asks for the password. Have tried several solutions
provided for XP on the MS Knowledgebase site but none of them have solved the
problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks -- Clive

If you don't get this answered here try the Outlook or Outlook general
(either) groups because they are overflowing with MVPs and a few Outlook
book authors.

It's pop3. I have five email accounts in all; Outlook 2002 will not remember
any of their passwords. I assuming that it's a Vista problem, but will also
take Chad Harris' suggestion to post on the Outlook group as well. Regards,

Update -- have used the MS Office repair function, then uninstalled
and reinstalled Outlook, and then uninstalled and reinstalled the
entire Office suite -- still no change in the inabilty for Outlook to
remember account passwords. Vista has no problems with remembering
passwords for Windows Mail (the "new" OE). Regards, Clive

I tried the same thing. No success either. I found a post suggesting to
create a new user profile, setting everything up and then scanning all pst
files before importing them. Although I don't get why you would import a pst
file rather than just open it with Outlook. Anyway, I'll try setting up a new
user, configure my e-mail accounts and won't even touch my existing pst
files. If the password then sticks, I'll get my hopes up...

The really useful (?) answer from Microsoft was:- "Yep, that is because Outlook 2002 is incompatible with Windows Vista. Only Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 are supported."
