Vista Business-Active Directory Domain Controller can't be reached

I have a screenshot of the error here:

http://www.geocities.com/blinton25/VistaDomainError.JPG

Running a network consisting of Windows XP computers which validate against
a Server 2003 domain controller. The domain name is in the form vm.com (which
isn't a domain we own or control, we actually own vm.com.ct, long story but
it works so no one ever changed it).

When a Windows Vista Business computer is connected to the network, it
defaults to Workgroup, but when I attempt to join it to the domain using the
wizard or manually, the error at the website above is displayed.

The wizard asks for a valid user account on the domain, and when this
provided it moves on to the next step, which is to ask for a computer name
which is a member of the domain (I created AdminMobile on the Server 2003).
The error then occurs

I suspect that the Vista machine is connecting to the vm.com address rather
than the local server, but I am suprised that the XP machines don't do this.
If this is the case, then I am thinking to change the domain name to vmcomtt.

Have I made the correct diagnosis?

It could be the name resolution issue. Try this command:

nslookup. Do you receive any errors? If not, then enter the domain name and
press enter. Any errors?

Hello,

Rather than obtaining DNS server information automatically I entered the IP
address of the server. The computer was then able to join the domain.
