Vista build 6000 file corruption

When downloading a large Multi rar file, vista will corrupt the archive once
the download is complete. I have tested with xp and found I can unpack them,
but when I try the same file with Vista, it claims its corrupt. I also have
issues with installing Far Cry, which claimed my DVD contained a corrupt
archive. It installs fine on XP.

I am using Vista x64 home prem amd 4000 64 bit ata 133 300gb with about 170
gb free and Via kt800 pro chipset. I am using windows native chipset drivers
and realtek x64 audio driver nvidia 7800 gs agp.

While I am on the subject of graphics card, why does it display driver
continually shut down and recover? Sometime not recovering but giving BSOD.
Its making my enjoyment of Vista very limited.

id say you have 64bit driver issues... try the 32bit version of vista to
confirm

Howie--

It sounds like you have some issues you should let MSFT know about as to the
RAR file and perhaps Far Cry.

As to your video driver:

I don't know if Nvidia has drivers for your card--I have a very similar card
and there are several choices, so you may want to call the card maker who
isn't Nvidia whoever they might be, for example BFG, (Nvidia makes the
chipset as you know) and ask their tech support (often good and open
24hX7days) if they recommend a particular Nvidia driver over another. They
often track which driver of several choices works best, which freeze with
certain games, etc. The reason I say that is that at this time, drivers are
coming available more frequently and the ones given to MSFT do not always
have the range of functionality that the ones made by Nvidia later. If you
were using BFG (no idea), the number would be 1-866-234-3499.

For example

While there is MS Wish, I have little confidence in it as a feedback
mechanism, because so many thousands of people make a panoply of types of
submissions but the Beta feedback tool is still running, and you can
download and us it:

I would try SFC (system file checker and (both) startup repair and if no
joy system restore from *it--I'm not sure what you mean precisely by "vista
will corrupt":

Try running SFC (System
File Checker) Run SFC (System File Checker) from an elevated command prompt.
It replaces files that are damaged with intact ones:

Start>right click cmd>run as admin>type at the prompt sfc /scannow.

It is run this way--and it fixes more
things than no boot Vista:

You can run Startup Repair by putting your Vista DVD in after the
language screen in setup. You can also run System Restore from the same
location.

You run the startup repair tool this way (and system restore from here is
also sometimes effective):

How To Run Startup Repair In Vista Ultimate (Multiple Screenshots)
http://www.windowsvista.windowsreinstall.com/vistaultimate/repairstartup/index.htm

Note The computer must be configured to start from a CD or from a DVD. For
information about how to configure the computer to start from a CD or from a
DVD, see the information that came with the computer.
2. Restart the computer. To do this, click Start, click the arrow next to
the Lock button, and then click Restart.

This usually means that you enter bios setup by whatever key or keys
(sometimes there is more than one key that will do it for your model--go to
pc manufacturer site) and configure CD to be first in the boot order.

See for ref:
Access/Enter Motherboard BIOS
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

Note If you cannot restart the computer by using this method, use the power
button to turn off the computer. Then, turn the computer back on.

3. Set your language preference, and then click Next.

Note In most cases, the startup repair process starts automatically, and you
do not have the option to select it in the System Recovery Options menu.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the operating system
that you want to repair, and then click Next.

6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair to start the
repair process.

7. When the repair process is complete, click Finish.

How to Use Startup Repair:

***Accessing Windows RE (Repair Environment):***

1) Insert Media into PC (the DVD you burned)

2) ***You will see on the Vista logo setup screen after lang. options in the

3) Select your OS for repair.

4) Its been my experience that you can see some causes of the crash from
theWin RE feature:

You'll have a choice there of using:

1) Startup Repair
2) System Restore
3) Complete PC Restore

Good luck,

Hi Chad, Thanks for your post. I have an XFX 7800gs. There are no vista
drivers on their website and I have been using the ones from Nvidia. I tried
it without the drivers, only using microsofts and found the issue remains. I
have tried the updated drivers from Microsoft, but due to the issue with
corruption on files, they failed to install. Error: driver failed to load
possible reason, the file may be corrupt (or very similar). I am having
problems with downloaded patches which claim error 1335. While trying to type
this reply I got a BSOD, rebooted now Office 2003 wont load (again) after a
reboot it will, perhaps. i have heard my IDE drives shut down with a click
then spin up again, or BSOD. I have quite a number of serious issues with
Vista as its corrupting my drive and possibly damaging sectors as it crashes.
Last night I tried to leave it on over night as I always do with XP and found
it had shut down. Its far too unstable to use, much worse than xp was when it
first came out. (I was an early beta tester of that too!)
