hi fellow vista users, have a big prob, had two new pc exactly the same, but
bought 4 weeks apart, but same specs except the second had a 32 bit vista and
first had 64, i asked why and the manufacture said it was no longer using 64,
but i have lots of 64bit softwear, asked if i could use the disc from the
first machine to up it to 64 they said yes and to use the product key from
the new machine, did all this but on the first instalation restart i get the
blue screen of death! says its a hardwear issue but there is no different
hardware to the other machine, i just managed to capture the error code, is
there anyone that can give me any info on this? its an oem windows,

See if it's not a SATA HDD error. You may need to start in ATA compatible
mode (BIOS Setting, if you're lucky) and then install the SATA drivers.

so ther could still be a problem even though the pc starts to boot up, how do
i instal the drivers without booting the pc(it wont start in safe) i have
downloaded them, and all other motherboard drivers as i was starting to think
along these lines, they list different drivers for 64 and 32 bit os, are
tthese not stored in the c drive DRIVERS folder as i had already copied this
folder from the other pc(that was the only thing that the manufacture had
said i would need to do)

You usually have to install the SATA drivers during the installation of
Vista when it asks for "Any Other Disk drivers". Then you insert the CD with
the SATA drivers and all is well. Many don't have the SATA drivers ahead of
time so they install on ATA compatibility and then get the Sata drivers and
do the install.

well you will be glad to know that i have solved this puzzel, and i think if
this had been made common known or at least printed on the instaltion cd, or
even on ms where they show you how to instal vista! you cant instal vista if
you have more than 2 gigs of ram as the preload drivers cant recognise it so
show it as faulty hardware! anyway, took the ram out and it continued with
instal and now all is fine!
