How do I view an attachment that I sent with windows vista on a computer that
does not have vista??

Vista has nothing to do with it.
You view the attachment with whatever program created it, or with a viewer
program for that specific file type.
What type of file is the attachment?

It really depends the type of file, but typical Office files can be
viewed if the XP machine has Vista Compatability Pack installed. You
can get it on the Microsoft KB or Google it.

There is no issue with doing this at all. The operating system on
either end is completely irrelevant.

The only possible issue is that the receiving computer does not have
an appropriate application installed to read the file attachment.

Let me guess what the problem is: You are using Office 2007, and are
sending a Word (or other office file) attachment to the other
computer. By default, that version uses the new format .docx, instead
of .doc. It's best to not send out .docx files because the recipients
may not have Word 2007 (or have not installed the patch that allows
earlier versions of Word to read it). Fortunately Word 2007 will let
you easily save the file in the old .doc format. Instead of doing
"Save," just do "Save as," and change the type to .doc.

If the recipient is running Word 2003, he can also download and
install a free Microsoft that will let him read docx files.
