I currnetly use System Mechanic 7 Pro. on my vista. The computer does does
show that i have a ant-virus softare or a fire wall, which does come with it,
but avast is supposed to offer a free antivirus softaware that is recommend
by a couple of Vista book + Hacking Windows Vista, which is a life saver. I
had Hacking Windows XP,when i still had that comp. and it brought that old
piece of junk from the brink of death, now I'm giving it to 12 yr old daughter
for her starter comp. Just because Windows doesn't list it for the computer
to register it, doesn't mean mean it wont work.

The antivirus software in Systen Mechanic 7 Pro. is worth everypenny
though. It caught a virus in the MBT(think i spelled that correctly)that
Norten did not catch(i had the 30 day free trial,I just bought a dell that
came with the dual core ,blah blah, blah) and it fixed a few problems that had
already occured even htough it wasn't effecting the computer. I paid $50
dollars for it at walmart on 3,07 to get replace avg. Nothing wrong with
it,but it doesn't delete the virus it will quarentine it.Leaving it to you to
find it and delete it. But if you don't want to pay the new 4* program is
avast.

you might find that AVG is just as good and uses minimum system resources compared to others.
recently switched from avast FREE to avg FREE and was amazed at the difference in system performance.

I have about 3 weeks with my Vista Ultimate installation, I've paid for
PCcillin Internet Security 2007 and my subcription expires on Feb 2008, but
when I installed with Vista it made a mess of my system: Continuos system
hogs, it kept my CPU at 100% usage most of the time and for some reasons
also caused network disconnections. The Trend-Micro support people although
well intended were useless and since 2006 version doesn't run on Vista I was
stuck with a useless version.

I heard of NOD32 and I evaluating right now, but, oh boy, the program is so
smart that keeps my system running with no CPU slow down. I have not been
able to find out why so many people find nod32 hard to use, to me it's
straigh-forward.

Now my problem is to force Trend-Micro to refund my money or at least part
of it, because no way I will go back with them until Feb 08, and I rather
use that money to keep nod32.

Try using Webroot Spy Sweeper with Anti-Virus. I am running vista home
premium and it doesn't give me any problems. Actually, back in the day when
my computer was running xp and had over 300,000 viruses/trojans/spyware/etc,
Spy Sweeper detected and removed every problem in my computer after a few
sweeps of the system. So overall, i would really recommend it. It is also
cheap.

I would never use McAfee or Norton because both run by scanning each element
of your computer operation and slow it down that way.

I prefer Panda Titanium because it seeks changes and traps even the unknown
for inoculation and it does not slow any process down.

The best virus protector is Mod32 and its cheaper that even Panda.

I hope you're correct about the scanning each element of my computer, but
I've experienced no slowdown with Norton 360.
