I have just installed vista ultimate onto an internal sata HDD and followed
my ISP's instructions to the latter___now what I have is that I can connect
to my ISP's server but cannot go any further__which means I cannot connect
to my home page or to email___I could at one point connect to my AVG
update__but not now , I have turned off windows firewall _____has anyone got
a clue please_____have been on the Internet since1998 and was connected to
Microsoft's network , so I do have a good perspective of how to setup and
connect_____but this is baffling me____am using my old and trusted XP Pro at
this time on a different HDD on the same computer.
With kind regards From OZ

How were you conected to the Net, modem or router?
Did you ISP give you the instructions to put your incoming and outgoing mail
servers in your email account, and username and password?

Hi,

Look over their instructions carefully as you may have missed something,
http://www.beagle.com.au/support/setup-guides/vista.html

If you are sure all is as it should be, try uninstalling your modem from
Device Manager. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect it.

From their FAQ's

A. Beagle do not explicitly support or recommend any particular brand or
model of modems. We do however strongly recommend to our customers that you
do not use so-called 'softmodems' or 'winmodems'. These modems perform many
of their tasks in software and can be affected by other tasks on your
computer. We recommend using external modems that perform all modulation and
demodulation functions in hardware such as the Netcomm IN5710<<<<

By you saying AVG did update a few times then quite I believe you have a
failing modem or your modem is hitting one of theirs that do not communicate
well.

My ISP provides dial-up and BB access. I have used them both. I have used
wireless at the hotels. I have taken the laptop to client sites and
connected to their network All of this I have done to get to the Internet
using Vista U. I have made no configuration changes to Vista for access the
Internet via the various connection solutions.

Have you tried flushing DNS? What IP does the machine have from the ISP when
you use IPconfig /all at the Command Prompt. Compare that IP the machine has
on Vista as opposed to the IP the XP machine would get under the same
situation. The other problem you may be facing is the the browser is not
configured properly and is preventing you from browsing the Internet.
Install Firefox on the computer and see if you can go to the Internet with
Firefox.
