Vista 64 bits

I drive an Acer Ferrari 4005 that runs on a Turion 64 processor.
The last inspection said:
-engine: ok
-Gas tank: full
-Brakes: fine
-Gearbox. ok

etc...

I ordered the complete version of Vista most appropriate for this laptop
and was sold Vista Ultimate.
It comes with two disks, one with the 32 bit stuff and the second with the
64 stuff.

Question 1: The 64 version does not install.
I have therefore installed the 32 version and after tried installing the 64
once again...

It simply won't take the 64 version.I am chucked out of instalation
procedure after my first "click".

Would anyone know why this happens and if I can solve the problem?


I am not an IT expert: I know how to install OSs or programs on condition
they only require clicking on "Next".
So if someone has an answer, please be strictly pedestrian in your
explanation.

Question 2: Vista 32 has created a file Windows old that takes up 15 GIG on
my disk for a purpose not clear to me since its contents do not work with
Vista. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

For the first questions I have no answer, the Turion should be excepted for
install, maybe a glitch in recognition.

To get the Wondows.old cleared out, use the most simple option <G>, drive
clean and select "for all users" and it's gone.

you have to clean install x64 (can't upgrade a 32 bit OS).
also, as I recall, these machines came with FAT32 if you got one of
them when they were first launched.

The 4000 also had two partitions. Can you convert the D:\drive to
NTFS from within the existing 32 bit installation? Then, I'd move
all the data files you want to save to the D: d drive. Then I'd
convert the C: drive to NTFS

Then, shut down the machine with the 64 bit DVD inserted. turn the
machine on and boot from DVD when prompted. do a quick format of the
C drive as NTFS if needed and install to C.

I've clean installed x64 to a couple of 4000's multiple times
including RTM.
