Vista 64 bit version

Thanks to everyone for your responses on my question concerning the 4 gig/8
gig ram recognition/usage.

My new machine has the Intel 2 Extreme QX6850 processor which I believe
supports a 64 bit OS, which would support 8 gig of ram.

Can I just install Vista 64 bit or is there a bios modification necessary?

Also, I know there might be compatibility issues with some software or
hardware I've been using with XP. What complications might I expect? Is
the worst case scenario that anything I was using would work with Vista 64
but might not show any improvement - or might some things not work at all?

Recommendations?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Hi,

You generally do not need any BIOS modification to install x64 on a 64-bit
capable motherboard. If you take the time to ensure that drivers are
available for your hardware before you start, you'll save yourself from
potential headaches later.
