Vista 5308 / Office 2007 Beta2 work OK together ?

B

- Bobb -

I've used Vista 5308 for a while and I just now downloaded/installed Office
2007 beta 2.
From available Office 2007 downloads, I chose and installed:
Office Pro
Outlook Business Contact Mgr
One Note
Project

I did not "register for support" after any of the apps installed. I rebooted
before trying any apps ( figuring I'd then register) and when I try to run
any of them I get an error and a popup asking if I'd like to send an error
report to MSFT. I don't know / it doesn't tell me what the error is , BUT
in Control Panel - Solutions - it does say that it is a known error and will
be fixed in the next release. Am I on Candid Camera ? My download is 2 hours
old and it's a KNOWN bug and will be fixed Next time - No office app even
STARTS ( yes i'm yelling at my PC) !!!

Perhaps Office 2007 Beta and Vista Beta don't work together ?
Although I thought that THAT was the whole idea ? I sent them this text as
feedback. Any suggestions to get this going ? I'm off to look for answers
( someplace other than MSFT website which doesn't offer me any solution).

I believe that I have read that Office 2007 Beta requires the Vista Beta 2
(5384 build).

Office 2007 beta does NOT require Vista Beta 2... I'm running it fine with
no problems on MCE 2005... :)

I think the emphasis was on the build version nor the OS version. ;-)

Curious, any issues come to mind installing Vista beta 2 as dual boot
with Office 2007 beta 2 already installed...?

Exactly. With the beta 2 of Office 2007 installed under my original
OS (XP), a dual-booted install of Vista could, and should, care less.
I'll now return to my dish Andre. As always, thanks for your help.

Ok, I went to MSFT site to download latest version. I got a passport
prompt ( which I haven't used in a Lonnnng time)
"You can sign in here with your existing e-mail address and password."
I went entered my login info and I get:

"The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please retype the e-mail
address and password, or sign up if you haven't already done so. "

No it's not incorrect - it's the same email I got when they sent me
this - long ago:

From: "Microsoft Certification" (e-mail address removed)
And what I do for passwords is send myself an email with my password so
I can save it on my PC.(which I just read)
so I clicked "forgot my password" and it asks me some obscure question
( favorite old TV show) that I didn't select - I always choose "dog's
name". Sure I can create another hotmail account, but it's not one that
is assocaited with my MSFT certs / training.
5308 I got via DVD at MSFT Tech Tour in May , not via download.
I'm thinking that maybe my "old passport account" expired when they
went to Live ? Anyone been here ? How to get around this ?

Unless you have a current MSDN subscription, or Technet Plus, you'll have to
wait until the CPP of Beta 2 is released. That's the only way to get
downloads at the moment.

Hi Bobb,

If you're using Vista with Office 12, you'll need Vista Build 5384 or higher. For passport profile issues (it could be a cookie
setting on the PC) you can use http://passport.net

Thanks for the info: I'll just not use it for now.
I guess I didn't notice/ read the pre-reqs when I downloaded Office
2007.
Maybe when someone is providing feedback on the Office beta, they might
include :
"Mention at install that Vista build xxx is required for Office to run".

Go to the directory that contains the executables
Right click and go to the tab where you can set compatibility settings

Anyway, Beta 2 can be downloaded now ;)

However well it works, it is unsupported on that platform. Any reports of
errors or anything else will be discarded without hesitation.

Hi Bobb,

FWIW, the new "Windows Vista Ultimate" Beta2 Preview build is now available for download or ordering a CD from http://microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx

Note, however, this admonition on the website.

This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007.

For Office 2007 Beta 2, it isn't supported on Windows vista builds earlier than 5384, so any issues that you find in build 5308 compatibility mode aren't going to be too valid in trying to wring out bugs in Office 2007 before it launches :)
