Does anybody know how to make Vista recognize my 4GB of memory?

I have tried the following but it did not work.

BCDedit /set nx AlwaysOff

BCDedit /set pae ForceEnable

Thanks in advance.

If you want it to recognize it, but not use it, you can install Vista SP1.
The only way to fully use that 4 GB of RAM is to upgrade to a 64 bit
operating system.

Negative partner.

Microsoft says their 32-bit OS are supposed to support up to 4GB of RAM.

All 32-bit versions of Windows (not just XP) have a 4GB address space.
That's the theoretical upper limit beyond which you can not go.

But you can't use the entire 4GB of address space. Even though you
have a 4GB address space, you can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM.
That's because some of that space is used by hardware and not
available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but is
usually around 3.1GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address *space*, not the actual
RAM itself. The rest of the RAM goes unused because there is no
address space to map it too.

It would but the motherboard is putting hardware addresses in the way.
Unless you have a 64-bit OS, you can't use all 4 GB. It's not Microsoft's
fault. That's just the reality.

You have no chance until you install a 64 bits Operating System Even a Linux
has the same problem. It can recognise but just uses 3Gb.

And indeed they do, hardware willing. As it turns out, between
motherboards and video cards, you're only looking at around 3.2GB of
address space left over for RAM.

i've tried it several times on build PCs for vista 32bit to recognize
RAM higher than 3GB buit no luck - RAM manufacturers have then
same say on this issue. get the vista 64-bit and you'll have no problem
and you can even go higher than 4GB.

List of things that won't be happening
1. All of that 4Gb of ram becoming available for use while you have a 32bit
version of Vista installed.
