Since 2-3 months everytime i scan my pc, it always detects 2-3 adaware at-risk-files in the windows folder. I have deleted some files form the folder, but now I think they were important files. One of the file was msbbi.exe. Now my notepad does not start after deleting it. I am fed up with this adaware virus. It is starting to "consume" my pc. Today also i got two at-risk-files in the windows folder which are .dll files, and i think are essential to the operating system. So i could not delete them. Does anyone know how do i get notepad back? is there any permanent "cure" for this adaware virus? by the way. i use norton antivirus 2004 professional addition.

I'm not sure what msbbi.exe is, it isn't a file on any of my computers, but
it isn't notepad either.
Notepad is "notepad.exe"
In addition to running Adaware you should also run Spybot S&D.
www.safer-networking.org/
and CWShredder: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
These will catch things AdAware didn't. Make sure you update them even if
you are downloading them new.

I would also recommend using a firewall.
You can get a free firewall here: http://smb.sygate.com/free/default.php

By the way, Norton won't catch Adware being installed on your computer in
most cases, only viruses.

I can find no reference to a file named msbbi.exe... I did a search on my XP
pro machine and did not find a file by that name... If notepad is no longer
working I do not think deleting msbbi.exe was the cause. A side note there
is a spyware app. msbb.exe that is a known security risk... your file might
have been a variant of that file.

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, msbbi.exe is Bonzi Buddy
Installer - malware. I deleted mine and it didn't affect Notepad. Can
you find Notepad.exe if you search your harddrive?
