virus

I use Win XP Pro at home. I had several viruses slip past
Norton this past week and they messed up Windows files
after Norton removed them. I have an idea of how they got
on my pc, and it was not Nortons fault. I typed in a
search wrong and got caught in an infinite adult pop-up
window. I found the viruses by my computer acting
strange, so I did an update and did a full scan. The
viruses were all Backdoor Sub-Seven(?) variations.

My question is, how do I correct the problems? None of
these programs work: IE, Norton(System Works and Internet
Security), My Computer, any Norton or MS desktop, execpt
OE, any thing through Start button, and it will not allow
me to install any programs. I was going to try and re-
install System Works to get the anti-virus going, but it
will start to boot from the cd, but then it just closes
down.

Thanks for any advice.

First use another computer to search for and download
the specific removal tool for that virus, which I believe
is a trojan horse, then copy it to a floppy disk. Then
reboot your infected PC into safe mode, then turn off the
system restore and then put in that floppy to copy the
removal tool to desktop, and run it. Reboot again and
then turn back on your system restore.
