Hi all......
I'm running AVG (with all latest updates) on an XP machine. It keeps telling me i have the "BackDoorpage" trojan. It even helpfully tells me the name of the file and its location (system32 folder) However......it cant get rid of it. I cant delete it manually either. I've tried running the comp in safe mode and in safe mode with command prompt but still cant delete it (access denied messages).
Apart from AVG I have CWShredder, ZoneAlarm, Spybot, AdAware and Stinger. None of them seem to be able to remove it but most pick it up (although spybot seemed blissfully unaware of the problem!)
All these AV/spyware killers are fully updated as is Windows itself. Its my own PC and i have full admin rights.

Any clues?????

In safe mode look at the properties for the file you want
to delete. remove any read-only etc. then try to delete
again.
I tried searching for your virus but the name doesn't
seem to be correct. check for specific removal
instructions here:

Hi Kuju---

It might be a trojan that you have and not a virus, might try specific program for it, like "Trojan Hunter". Should be able to download a trial version, I haven't seen much in the way of "freeware", for dealing with trojans. See ya----

Normally when that happens, the procedure is something like this:
- Right Click the Task Bar and select Task Manager
- Click on Processes.
- find the file name you are looking for and then select End Task.
- Click on Start, Run, Regedit
- go to HKLM\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
- Select the key that is launching your filename, and delete it.
- exit and reboot.

For more specific instructions, see one of the AntiVirus/antoSpyware sites
and check the "Manual Removal" instructions for that specific bug. Often
times there are related Reg entries in HKEY_Root_Classes too.
