Virus Scanning & Frozen Attachments

I was hoping you could help me with two questions
unrelated except that they both concern Outlook 2002.

Is there a way to scan for viruses in Outlook?

My email works fine until I get something with an
attachment. When I try to open the email with the
attachment (i.e. NOT open the attachment), the program
stops responding. What's the deal? I've been trying to
fix it for a while now and would appreciate any wisdom
you could spare.

All the mainstream AV apps have the facility to scan emails, on download and
upload
An AV app is of little use if yr virus deffinitions are not upto date.
Yr sys may be degraded ( ie the facility to plug loopholes) if you dont
apply critical updates

Re attachments; Have you run Detect/Repair?, applied any updates?
