Virus Scan in Word

When I open Word at the bottom of the screen
the 'requesting virus scan' just above the Start box now
takes several minutes and often Word crashes before it
eventually finishes. I have Windows XP, Webroot spy
sweeper and Norton Internet Security 2005. Any ideas?

Disable the Norton Office Plug-in.
