Requesting virus scan?

S

Sonny

I am using Word 2002 on a Gateway 500S computer with two hard drives: "c"
drive is primary, and "d" drive is storage (for my word files). When I ask
Word to open a file on the "d" drive, it takes, sometimes, 20 to 30 seconds
to open because, a small toolbar window informs me, the program is
"requesting a virus scan."

I don't have time to wait for a virus scan every time I open a file . . .
which may be a hundred or more times a day. I went to Word's TOOLS . . .
OPTIONS . . . SECURITY, and unchecked everything I could. The program (or
some program) continues to "request virus scan" delaying my work.

What is this about? Why does WORD need to scan my existing files? How do I
eliminate this pesky scan?

Thanks in advance,

Sonny

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus installed? It seems to install a Word Add-in
that causes people problems. HTH T

Thanks for responding. Yes, I do have Norton. I will investigate that
angle.

Thanks for tip,

This message is coming from Norton AntiVirus. Disable the Office Plug-in,
which causes numerous conflicts in addition to slowing everything down.
