We were infected with w32/jeefo virus and in
the "cleaning" process lost approximately 1500 files that
could not be "cleaned". Some were duplications made by
the virus. Nearly all are .exe files. I am NOT computer
literate, but I do know that I am now missing what appear
to be somewhat vital pieces from nearly all of my
programs, including XP.
Will simply reinstalling XP replace the missing bits?
When we first installed XP on this computer, my son spent
many, many days downloading patches for everything else
we had on the computer. I don't want to have to do THAT
again!
Is there any reasonably simple way to recoup the missing
executable files from other programs that were on the
computer when purchased without destroying things that
were added later?
I have a Compaq presario that was purchased right when XP
came out. I still have the "recovery disc" but have been
hesitant to use it lest I mess up all that "patching"
that was done when we installed XP and deleting
everything that has been added since its purchase.
I need advise, please.
Thanks!
