Virus recovery and services.exe

I've recovered my pc from a virus/trojan, mostly, but have a new problem with
services.exe slowly building in memory usage.
Things were fine until the virus/trojan hit.
Ran AdAware, SpyBot, HijackThis and a generic antivirus from the web; in
normal and safe modes.
Sevices.exe began to take memory.
Installed XP SP2 and Windows Live OneCare and all updates. Ran its antivirus
and cleaned. No change in services.exe behavior.
Located and removed two registry items; stonedrv and ibm00003.exe.
Still no change.
Also, an unnamed program bar flashes for about two seconds on the taskbar
every few minutes - making me believe things aren't all ok (like my pc is
being used for things other than I wish).
My event viewer has warnings or errors in regards to tcp/ip using too many
ports...

Was hoping the update to SP2 would have fixed the odd services.exe behavior.
Cannot do home banking until I clear up this mess.
What avenues, other than reinstall, do I have? What programs can I use to
watch every application call so I can sit quietly with nothing running and
have a snapshot of the mystery program that starts every few minutes?

Thanks for any advice or direction.
