Virus Protection

I have two new Dell Computers that have been added to my small office LAN.
We are all connected to the internet via a router and cable modem. The
problem is that the new Dell's can connect to the internet but not to the
printers in the office. They cannot see the other computers connected to
the LAN but can be seen by other computers on the network. I think it has
something to do with the virus protection but I am not sure. Can anyone
help?

It has NOTHING to do with AV software !

Make sure both LAN nodes are using NetBIOS over IP.

From the POV of PC1 Use the command; NBTSTAT -A IP_ADD_PC2
From the POV of PC2 Use the command; NBTSTAT -A IP_ADD_PC1

You should be able to see each other's NetBIOS information.

Assuming you have two users; USER_A and USER_B, make sure both platforms have accounts for
USER_A and USER_B using the same passwords on both platforms.

Networking will be slightly better if both platforms use the same WORKGROUP name but it
isn't neccessary.

On another note -- On your Router I suggest blocking both TCP and UDP ports 135 ~ 139 and
445 for added security.
