Virus problem

I have been fighting some virus for weeks and can't seem to get rid of it
all.

I am curious about alg.exe. I am not using the firewall or ICS and have
disable the Application Layer Gateway. Alg.exe is not being used and does
not even show up in my task manager. I even deleted it. But it keeps
coming back. Where is it coming from? I had heard that this file could be
used as a virus.

I also have a folder that had a name of scrambled characters, something
like: "aaced22d20273ddcfg". It has a folder "sp2" in it that has access
denied on it and won't let me open it or delete it. I renamed the first
folder to "a test" and it let me, but it won't let me delete or rename the
sp2 folder.

Anyone know why?

Thanks,

Tom.

alg.exe = Application Layer Gateway Service

alg.exe lives in these two folders >>

C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

Windows File Protection won't let you delete alg.exe.

Actually, I did get it deleted by creating another file - deleting the
alg.exe file and renaming the first file to alg.exe before it reappeared.
This did not fix my virus problem, however.

Thanks,

Tom.
