virus problem win xp

i had a virus problem last week, windows would not start
so i used a win xp boot disk at work to get windows to
start. can i get my old programs back on my desktop they
are still there but it says they are a background file.
help thanks kevin

Try a "Repair Install" as described at:

When the page opens, scroll down and click on: How To Run A Repair
Install. There is a step by step walk through including images. Your
software, settings, data files, desktop, etc. are retained.
