Is this a virus or spyware user group, why are the people in this group
posting spyware problems?

Because other people in this group are happy to read and answer them
here. Besides, only people are hung up on taxonomy - it's an analogue
universe, and there is no neat line between spyware, worm, trojan, and
virus.

Well, this is news to you? Haven't you checked the anti-virus products
themselves to see that they also check for trojans and some spyware?
Since the anti-virus product makers are blurring the lines then also
expect the same of users. Some anti-virus products now include IPS
(intrustion protection systems); Prevx, Abtrusion, and System Safety
Monitor are some examples of stand-alone IPS'es, but McAfee now bundles
its IPS with their VirusScan. Have you found a newsgroup named
"<something>.malware" that covers all the nasty software (viruses,
trojans, spyware, adware, etc.) and all nasty activity (hacking, RATs,
and other invasion or misuse)?

Cause they don't know any better. Virus to them just means "bad program" and who can blame them for that
when anti-VIRUS programs detect them and report them. Read any good HJT logs lately?

PSERVE:

I have been hit by spyware that installed itself much like a virus,
overwriting system files. These days AVs, include spyware/adware
protection. If you are interested in spyware/adware, then checkout
alt.privacy.spyware. You will see subscribers common to both of these NGs.
