Virus - Antivirus2009 / Antiviurs 360

A

~~Alan~~

I refer to Antivirus 2009 and/or Antivirus 360, you know, that malisious
software that infects and ruins your OS configuration by letting you think
you have 52+ viruses on your machine and the way to eradicate them is to
download their software and that download is in fact the virus.

I'm told the real and only way to clean your system is to format the disk
and reload the OS from scratch.

I'm also told that a product, Malware-Bytes, a freebie from MalwareBytes.org
will clean the system as well as M/S's Malisious Software Removal Tool
available via the weekly critical fixes.

Your thoughts and/or experience's with this trojan are appreciated.

I don't agree. The specific items you mention aren't that difficult to
clean off.

One of the major purposes of those particular items is actually to get
credit card numbers from you.

You may have *other* problems, but that's another issue.

Sometimes various tools are needed. A good place to start is with
ccleaner, as this will significantly reduce the number of files that have to
be processed when the drive is scanned, and also because much malware enters
through the folders that ccleaner empties.

A/V scanning the drive from another system can also be a good tactic.

To be 100% certain that you've removed all malware from your computer,
the only 100% sure method is to wipe it and reinstall.

With the above being said, there are many people willing to accept the
risk of not wiping and reinstalling and just being reasonably sure that
their machines are cleaned.

These sites are for downloading Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware tools, in
order that I would use them myself:

Dave Lipman's tools:
Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
(this is a non-english site, but it's a great tool)

No respectable member of the anti-malware community would recommend
anything from "The Real Truth" or from "PCBUTTS1.COM" website.

Don't download *anything* from this pervert's web site unless, of course,
you want more problems than you already have.

But what ever you do, NEVER download Ubuntu. That will totally **** up your
system. You think you have problems now, just try Ubuntu. Never mind:
Don't try it

My brother's computer just got this. Spybot 1.6.2 with current updates
got rid of it.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

Another Question: If I have two accounts, one Administrator and another for
general everyday use, can the Antivirus 2009 get onto my computer with the
lessor priv'ed account?

You bet! This is because launcher files are often moved from the user's
Temporary Internet Files folders to the Windows structures, which affect all
users.
