Virtual PC 2007 & a Virus ????

Guest

When running Windows XP in the Virtual PC 2007 window on a Vista Ultimate
host, if I get a virus in the virtual Windows Xp opperating system, will it
migrate over to the Vista opperating system?

In other word. I would like to have a Virtual window running Windows Xp
that my family can surf the internet with without me worring that the host
system (Vista) might become infected. If the Virtual (Windows Xp) gets
infected I want to just refresh it with a clean image of Xindows Xp as before
it got infected.

What are your thoughts????

Install a good antivirus software program such as
Windows OneCare.

Install the same protection on the virtual machine as if it were the host
operating system on your hard drive.

Do not share any folders between your host and guest. Otherwise this folder
may become infected or contaminated. This could then be picked up by the
host operating system.

Create a copy of the guest O/S after you install your antivirus and anti
spyware - and before you start using the guest for web surfing. Then if the
guest gets infected you can just delete it and copy over your saved copy to
start again.

You do a bad enough job with OS; just leave anti-virus alone. And one of the
worst things that you did was to shove Defender down people's throats. If I
see it on customers XP machines, I remove it. It is a load of crap.

Hi,

While it's a good thought, if the XP installation gets a worm that can
traverse a network, then the virtual connection that it has will allow it to
feed back to the host system (and any others on the network). Protect a
virtual environment the same way as you would a physical one with a decent
AV product and anti-spyware application.

Get AVG Free and load it on your XP session. That should keep you safe.
Don't run any anti-virus software written by McAfee, Norton, or Microsoft.
JUNK.

Better still, move on over to a real operating system like Ubuntu and say
goodbye to worrying about malware like this.

BTW, here's the latest one ... funny as hell.

Poor Windoze users. Always behind the 8-ball. Always a bridesmaid but never
