Virtual Memory

What exactly is Virtual Memory and why does my machine tell me that I don't
have enough and that windows is trying to make more? The only thing I have
running is my Antivir program.

To set correctly,R.click my computer,properties,advanced,performance,virtual
memory,change button,set to "Let system manage" click set 2X,close out,a
