Virtual Memory

a message from my tool bar (lower right hand corner)
earlier today indicated that I would be receiving help
from microsoft/windows on increasing the size of my
virtual memory as it's now inadequate. This was not a
sales gimmick 'pop up '. Will I know when/how this help
arrives?

It won't - it's an internal adjustment made by Windows.
