windows 2000 keeps saying i am out of virtual memory and that i need to
increase my virtual memory paging file.

what do i do?

Right click my computer/properties/advanced/performance
options/change.

You should set up your page file to a size between 1.5 to
3 times that of your ram. The disadvantage in setting a
smaller page file is that if it should expand and
contract, it would leave a few fragmented files around.
The page file can be located in different drives as well,
so choose a fast drive with plenty of space on it.

Hope this helps

I think the standard is your RAM plus 11
